Prenatal scans, also known as ultrasound scans, are imaging tests that use high-frequency sound waves to create images of a developing baby in the uterus. They are a non-invasive and safe way to monitor the growth and development of the fetus during pregnancy. We offer comprehensive, integrated women’s healthcare with individualised treatments at Samartha Fertility and Fetal Medicine, employing the latest cutting-edge research and technology. Types of Prenatal Scans:

Several types of prenatal scans are performed in Samartha Fertility and Fetal Medicine at different stages of pregnancy including:

  1. Dating Scan: Performed usually around 8-12 weeks of pregnancy, this scan is used to confirm the due date and detect any potential problems with the pregnancy.
  2. Nuchal Translucency Scan: Performed at 11-13 weeks of pregnancy to measure the thickness of the baby’s neck and can indicate the risk of Down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities.
  3. Anomaly Scan: Performed around 18-22 weeks of pregnancy to check the baby’s growth and development, and to detect any structural abnormalities.
  4. 3D/4D Ultrasound: These scans are less commonly used than the above ones, but they can create detailed images of the baby’s face and body, allowing parents-to-be to see their baby more realistically.
  5. Growth Scan: Depending on the pregnancy and the circumstances it may be necessary to have frequent scans done to ensure the baby is growing appropriately. These can be done towards the end of the second trimester or throughout the third trimester.
  6. Doppler Scan: This scan provides information about blood flow to and from the placenta and the baby, giving insights into the well-being of the fetus.

Each of these scans has a unique purpose, and the frequency of the scans may vary depending on the pregnancy, risks, and other considerations. These scans are valuable tools for monitoring the health and development of the fetus and can provide important information for the parents-to-be.
